Wonderful Weekend

This has been such a wonderful weekend! I just don't want it to end. Heather came home yesterday and we had a good evening. We went to church and went to get our nails done. She got a manicure and I got a pedicure. RELAXING! Just what I needed after a horribly stressful week at work.

This morning we got up and headed to Kansas City. We went to the Renissance Festival and it was a blast. It was a beautiful day to go. Not to hot and not to cold and the rain stayed away until we were on our way home. We watched some funny shows, Heather ate a huge turkey leg and we got our palms read.

We were standing in line to get our palms read and Heather said "why are we doing this, it's such bull shit." We laughed about it and decided it would just be fun. Well the lady blew us away! She was so on target with both of us! She said that I would make a great social worker and an advocate for children's rights. She went on and on about that giving examples of things I could do in the social work field and things that I would advocate for and it's what I'm already doing. She did say that I would end up traveling and giving speeches on the topic which makes sense to me. I could see myself doing that.

She also said that I have too many parents. That cracked me up! I am adopted and I've often felt that way. Between being adopted and having divorced parents it means there are a lot of parents involved! It was just crazy that she was so on target. I don't know how she knew that stuff. Amazing. Heather's was so great too. We left pretty shocked and impressed. So fun!

It's just been such a relaxing weekend. I am dreading heading back to the office tomorrow. The craziness will begin again in no time. I'm just glad I got a little break before it starts again.

Happy Wedding

Today is a big day for my blogging buddy Julie! She is marrying the love of her life Mike. Right now they are probably enjoying their wonderful wedding reception. I wish them a lifetime of happiness. If you would like to stop by Julie's blog Flip This Body and wish her and Mike well I'm sure she would appreciate it.

Blogging Biggest Loser Week 2

Last night I couldn't post so I'm sorry for the delay! But it was another great week in the blogging biggest loser competition! I'm so thrilled at what a great start we are off too. This week Natalie is our biggest loser with a solid 2 pound weight loss.

Not everyone weighed in this week so I'm not sure what the whole group lost. But for everyone that weighed in this week we had a total weekly loss of 5 1/2 pounds. That makes our grand total 18.9 pounds so far! That is great! That means we are only 82 pounds away from the goal of 100 pounds lost as a group!!! We can do this gang!!!

This week I'm going to throw a little challenge out there. I challenge all of the participants to drink at least 8 8oz glasses of water a day. I think this will help in your weightloss! When you weigh in next week let me know if you drank all your water. If so I will do a seperate post with links to your blogs. I challenge anyone that hasn't joined us in the challenge yet to leave a comment and get in on the fun! It's never too late to get started!

Good luck and Good Losing!

What A Monday

Today was my first day back at work since fighting the sickness. It really wore me out. I think I'm gonna crash in just a few minutes. My little eyes can barely stay open. Even though it was a long day and I am really behind it was so nice to be back. I miss all my work people when I'm away. I guess I thrive on the drama...

We got a new Blogging Biggest Loser contestent today! Eileen is joining the group. Eileen if you have a blog I would love to link to it so just let me know if you do. If not I'll just link to your blogger profile. Either way is fine. We are all just glad to have you so WELCOME!

Tomorrow is the big way in day. I'm a little nervous. I have a feeling that it won't be pretty for me. When I don't get exercise in I don't tend to do so well. And this week the only exercise I got was coughing. I am excited to see how everyone else did though. So make sure to weigh in and I'll post everything tomorrow night.

We have our supervisors meeting at work tomorrow and Wednesday. Our manager usually has us work pretty late so I might not get to post till late tomorrow night. We will have to see how it goes. I am gonna TiVo the actual show so I can watch it later.

If anyone else would like to join the challenge just let me know. We would love to have you!

Manic Monday

You’ve won $100,000 – but have to give it all away. To which charity or institution would you donate it?

I would donate it all to the American Cancer Society.

What do you think is the most soothing sound?

The sound of rain always soothes me!

Does time heal all wounds?

I've been known to say often that time heals nothing. But when I really think about it there are some wounds that time does heal. When you think about the little paper cut wounds like a trivial fight with a friend I think those heal over with time. But would you think about those large wounds like the loss of a loved one or the pain of a divorce I think time does little. Those wounds may scab over but the slightest bump and your back where you started.

Success X 2

This is the second Sunday in a row that I've gone to church with NO CRYING! I woke up this morning looking forward to getting ready and going. That is a big change! Again I went to my old church and saw even more people that I hadn't seen in a long time. I got so many hugs and such a nice welcome. The sermon was great and I left feeling really refreshed.

While Pastor was giving the sermon he talked about how when you sit in church and worry about outside things it means that you aren't trusting God to take care of those things for you. That really hit home to me. What is funny about this is about two minutes before he said that my mind was wandering a bit and I was worrying/thinking about all the adoption stuff. I was playing the little mind game of what if the adoption agency is trying to call right now I left my phone in the car, what if I don't get matched, what if I never get a baby, etc. His sermon was a great reminder to me that God is going to provide for me and take care of the adoption for me and I need to trust that. I need to have faith that he is preparing me and preparing a baby to come together. He has it all planned I just need to sit back and wait faithfully. I guess I just needed a little reminder of that this morning.

So it's been a great Sunday and I have a feeling it's going to be a great week!

What A Difference

What a difference a day and $120 worth of meds makes! I woke up this morning and felt pretty good. I still have a stuffy nose and a bad cough but I don't really feel bad. I think those will just linger for awhile. I actually put on makeup and did my hair which is the first time I've done that since Wednesday so I must be on the mend. I'm heading to church now which means I'll see people! I'm thrilled about that. I've been so sick of being stuck in the house with no outside contact. I don't handle that well.

Getting To Know One Another

Gene over at Turning The Pages Of Life came up with a very creative and fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers. He says

"I would like to take a minute and build upon the warming the world through friendship idea that many bloggers recently participated in. We post on our blogs, get replies and post on other people's blogs, and over the course of time start to get to know each other a bit. We can guage the personality of another blogger through the words they type but wouldn't it be nice to get a little insight into what they really see when they look out their wondows? I was thinking we need to try and do something about that, so I decided to try and do something visual that we could all participate in. Here's how it'll work:
1) On Saturday, October 20th, let's all make a post featuring pictures of where we live.
2) Try and take at least 10 photographs of your surrounding area and postem on your blog.
3) Make SURE you include a description of what each picture is. Give us as much detail as you can.
4) Sign up for the link /a>">here , and place the links to the other participants on your page.
5) Comment on this post sayng you'll participate and I will include those links in the body of this post so that all you'll have to do is copy them and paste them onto your blog.
Sound simple enough? I would love to see some pictures of whereever you live and I'm sure there are others who are of the same mindset. I'll leave this post up as a stick until then so make sure and sign up and start taking pictures!"

I think this is such a fabulous idea. I'm for sure participating! I hope you will visit Gene and join in the fun also!

Restless

Had to stay home sick from work again today. I don't feel real great but I do feel a lot better today than I did yesterday. I'm just really starting to get restless in the house. I hate being stuck at home but I don't feel well enough to go out and about. I'm trying to stay occupied between my naps. I've found some interesting things to do that at least don't wear me out.

I've caught up on all my People magazines. I had a stack of about 20 of them that I hadn't had time to read so I got those knocked out.

I sorted all my socks. I always seem to have a pile of socks that are mismatched. So I got all of those paired up and got rid of the solo ones.

I organized my recipe box.

I have watched every show I had stored on my DVR and it is completely empty.

Now that I've done those things I have no idea what I'll do the rest of the weekend. My to do list is a mile long but I get so worn out just emptying the dishwasher that I doubt I'll be able to do any real housework.

So now I'll have to come up with some other mindless task to keep me busy...

For Darbis

My best friend Darby has been having a tough week. She has been sick like me. But she also is a full time nursing student, and a mom, and a wife and is working. Not to mention she is also caring for her lovely niece which is a wonderful thing but also a stressful and a big adjustment. So while I was laying in bed coughing I thought I'd make her a little slide show. Hang in there girl! Let's get happy!!!

Love you Darbis!

Not The Cold Monster

I woke up this morning feeling like Hell. I thought I'd go into work for awhile this morning since I had court hearings to go to and then I'd try to go to the doctor in the afternoon. Well I couldn't even make it through my shower before I had to sit down in the shower. I seriously thought I might end up taking a little nap in there. So I called in to work and called the doctor and they worked me in this afternoon. It seems that I don't have a cold. I have walking phenmonia and a sinus infection. Not so fun. So I had to wait at Wal-mart for an hour for my four prescriptions and now I'm home and going back to bed. I had to spend 100 bucks on medicine. How crazy is that! I'm going back to sleep now.

Cold Monster

I think the cold monster has officially attacked me. My chest hurts, I can't breathe out of my nose, and I have a sexy sick kinda voice. While the voice is kinda a turn on the amount of snot pouring out of my nose may make anyone attracted to the voice run away from me.... I hate having colds. At least when you are really sick you can get an antibiotic and move along but with this you just have to wait it out. YUCK!

So I'm guessing that I'm going to spend the next few days panting for air out of my mouth and bonding with the Kleenex. Good times here...

Wordless Wednesday- Elmo's Going Down!

Blogging Biggest Loser Week 1

Wow what a great start to the blogging biggest loser competition!!! I'm impressed folks! I know that I said I would make this post after the showed aired tonight. However everyone weighed in already and I'm fighting a cold. I was afraid I might fall asleep during the show since I'm not feeling so hot and I didn't want to keep everyone waiting!

The big loser this week is Acire with a wonderful 3.8 pound loss! AMAZING!!! There are a few of us right on her heals so she will have to watch out. We just might catch her next week.

I'm looking forward to watching us all shrink as this goes along. Everyone is off to a great start and I'm just so excited to be a part of it. As a group we lost 13.4 pounds this week! Let's keep it up. I hope that as a group we can lose 100 pounds during the competition.

Happy week and keep with it team! If anyone else would like to join in and lose weight with us please leave a comment and I'll get you added. You can read the competition rules and view all the contestants weight loss results in the sidebar on the right!

Squeezing the OJ

OJ Simpson is in jail again! I'm so excited! Granted he wasn't arrested because he slaughtered to people. But armed robbery works too. He can get sentanced to something like 60 years for this. It's about time that his craziness catches up with him. I find some sweet satisfaction in his incarceration.

Nancy Grace was having a hay day over this tonight. I think she was a bit excited about him getting put in the slammer too. And of course there was still more coverage of the missing girl Maddie McCann. It's a sad deal that this little girl is missing but it's been a long time now and there are lots of other missing kids so I think it's time to talk about some new ones. I don't know if her parents hurt her or not but I do know that they have had a lot of air time and it's time to move along. I hate to seem mean but seriously Nancy let's find another case to cover.

Tomorrow is the blogging biggest loser weigh in so please let me know your gains or losses before the show airs tomorrow night. Then I will post it after the show.

Blast From The Past

It's been a blast from the past weekend around here. We have a family friend Lee that lived here for years. Well he decided a couple years ago to move out to western Kansas so we don't see him as often. But when my mom was sick he came often to visit and whenever he is in town to see his kids he comes by. I was thinking to myself this morning that it had been a long time since I'd seen him. At least two months. Well not to long after that the doorbell rang and there he stood! Just what I needed. I was so shocked I think I hugged him three times. We had a great visit and now he is off again. He is such a great guy.

Today I went to church at my old church and it was GREAT! I saw so many people that I hadn't seen in a long time and I just felt very comfortable. I think I'm going to go there again next week. There was no crying involved!!! It helped to see so many friendly faces that I've known for so long.

Off to do homework.

Let's Debate

I love politics. I always have. In fact I've been known to have election day parties and I always want my I just voted sticker. I love elections. And I so enjoy debates. My friends however do not love that I love politics. They get a bit annoyed by my reminders to go vote and my emails providing them information about the candidates.

So needless to say my friends aren't so willing to debate political issues with me. In fact I think they just wish I would shut up during campaign time. Since they don't want to debate with me I found a great website that is filled with people like me! People that actually do want to discuss politics with me. I could become addicted to site!!! The site simply promotes open straightforward political discussion and I love it. Go visit and let's debate!!!!

The Second City

Last night I went to see Second City perform. They are a hilarious improv group! Several of the folks that were on Saturday Night Live in the past started with Second City. The people that performed last night could easily get on SNL too. In fact I think that they were a lot more funny than anything I've seen on SNL in years. I laughed so hard at some parts that seriously I thought I was going to pee my pants. If they are every anywhere close to where you live performing you must go! FUNNY FUNNY!!! My stomach hurts today from laughing.

Crazy Cleaning

I got home late from work tonight and have been cleaning house and doing laundry for the past two hours. A social worker from a new adoption agency is coming to meet with me tomorrow. They want to start showing my profile to expectant families but want to meet with me first. I'm excited to meet with the new gal but I want the house to be perfect.

It's so ridiculous. A spotless house won't make me a better parent. Heck I go do walk throughs of clients homes and I don't care if a place is spotless but still. I just want her to have a good impression of me. So clean like a crazy woman is what I do.

5. Switching it Up! I need to not get in a rut by doing the same things every day. I need to try new foods and new exercise routines.

7. Write down what I eat! Keeping track of my food intake helps me to be accountable.

8. Set goals! I like to set short term goals and long term goals to help me stay focused.

9. Eat a healthy breakfast! I have found that if I start the day off right I'm more likely to stick with it through the day.

10. Check my blood sugar! This is a good way for me to monitor how well I'm doing with my eating.

And The Battle Begins

The online Blogging Biggest Loser competition kicked off on Tuesday. But at my office we started a biggest loser competition today! We all weighed in and the race is on. We are a competitive group of fat people around there. I think we will all do pretty good. When we do things as a group we do much better. When it's just one person on a diet we tend to accidentally sabotage with yummy treats. So we will see how it goes.

In exciting work news I've now figured out a bit of a routine. I don't feel as stressed about everything. I just make my to do list and try to stick to it. I have figured out I need to keep at least two hours a day unscheduled to handle questions, emergencies, etc. As long as I don't overbook things seem to go pretty smooth. Hopefully the worst of the transition is over now.

I'm off to watch Days of our Lives before I go to bed. I love that DVR!

10 Cities You Could Live In (for a month, for a year...if you couldn't live in your own)

1. Topeka, Ks - It's not far from my home town, I know people there and I could still commute to work.

2. Tulsa, OK - I'd be lost for awhile but I'd figure it out. Anywhere that has a Casa Bonita is a place I could live.

3. Kansas City, Ks- I'd be able to shop, I would be close to the airport and I could manage. I would be missing the small town feeling of home though.

4. Sun Valley, Idaho- I visited there once and it was beautiful. I could live there for awhile.

5. Evansville, Indiana- My niece Mattie is there so it has to be a wonderful place.

6. Anchorage, Alaska- I like the cold

7. Pleasantville, NY- It just sounds well pleasant!

8. Rockland, Maine- I've always wanted to visit because it looks gorgeous. I think I could handle living there.

9. Corpus Christi, Texas- I could live here because I could just stay with my dad. But it would have to be during the winter. I wouldn't survive in the summertime.

10. Colorado Springs, Colorado- It's in the top five safest cities in the US so that has to be a good thing...

Blogging Biggest Loser Time

Well we are starting to get a great team lined up for the Blogging Biggest Loser competition! I'm so excited. Tomorrow is the big day! I'm planning on getting up early so I can work out. And I already packed a healthy lunch to take with me to work tomorrow! We can do this. The season premire kicks off tomorrow night and I can't wait to watch. I hope that we will continue to add people to the competition. People can join in at anytime. I've had some questions about the competition so I'll try and answer those.

1. When do we give you our weigh in each week? I think it would be great if you could post your losses or gains in the comments each Tuesday. Then Tuesday night after the shows air I will post who is in the lead, etc. I will try to make it fun that way but no one is getting sent home from this competition!

2. Do I have to have a blog to participate? Well it is the blogging biggest loser competition so that name would lead you to believe that you need to be a blogger. But I have a lot of great friends and family members that want to play along and they don't have their own blogs. So anyone can join the competition. Just leave me a comment and I'll get ya added!

3. Is there a prize if I'm the Blogging Biggest Loser? Yes! If you win you get the prestigious title of The Blogging Biggest Loser. You also get a smaller ass, tight abs, and a huge boost to your self esteem. Doesn't that make you feel good!

4. Do I have to watch the show? You don't have to watch the show. I just happen to love it and find it very motivational. But you can watch or not watch anything you want.

5. Do I have to tell you my starting weight? NO!!! All I need to know is how many pounds you gain or lose each week. I'm not telling you all how much I weigh so I don't expect anyone to tell me.

So those are all the questions I've had so far. If you have any others feel free to leave them in the comments. I look forward to losing some weight with you all!

Jessie

Kiva

I heard about this great website from a friend of mine and I checked it all out today. It is such an amazing idea! I must share it with you. What you do is you go to this website and you can see profile of people from developing countries that are needing loans to start their own business. You can get information about them and the business they are wanting to start. Then you can make a loan to them. What happens is several people make loans to them so they get the full loan amount they need to start their business. Then they pay everyone one back over a certain period of time. Once the money is paid back to your account you can either take the money back or you can make another loan. The money is all managed by the organization and during the repayment period you get updates about the person you loaned to and how their business is developing. It's such a simple yet powerful way to help people!

What I love about this is that it really is a way to help people help themselves. So often you hear people say that people just want handouts. But I don't think that is true. I think the majority of the people in this world want to take care of themselves and their families. I think people want to work and provide for themselves. This a way to help them make that happen!

So I looked through all the profiles and I choose to lead $50.00 to a gal in Mexico that is opening a grocery store. She is close to my age and has a couple kids. She only needed $950.00 in total so I'm thinking that only a few more people will need to donate to get her the loan so she can get to work. I'm anxious to see how well she does.

I think this would be a great idea for parents to do with their kids. You can teach them about giving to others, developing a business, and about another culture. And with the updates along the way it's a great way to connect to the person you are helping. Heck maybe one day you can take a family trip and eat at the little restaurant you helped get off the ground. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

So please go visit Kiva and let me know what you think. I'd love to know who you help!

A Little Better

I'm feeling a little better today. I got a lot of house work and home work done today so that eases some stress. I can actually see the kitchen table now and all my laundry is done! That is success.

I did get up this morning and went to church. However, I got up and left about 30 minutes into it. I just can't stand going to church anymore. I sit there and cry and miss my mom and the whole time I'm there I'm angry that I'm sitting there alone. So I left.

I've been thinking about it a lot today and I called a lady that was good friends with my mom and that goes to the other Lutheran church in town. She is going to pick me up next Sunday and take me to church with her at my old church. Since I'll be riding with her family I can't leave in the middle or I'll have to walk home so that fixes that dillemia.

I went to the church she goes to the whole time I was growing up. Then about 4 years ago they got a new pastor that we really didn't click with. So my mom, Heather and I transferred to the church I go to now. I love the pastor there but the congregation is older and I don't know many people. I always sit by myself and they don't have many activities outside of the regular services.

At my old church I knew everyone and there are more people my age. So maybe if I go back there next week I won't feel as lonely or angry... Good theory right... The pastor that I don't like is still there but at this point it's worth a shot. I'm tired of crying through church or being ticked off the whole time so we will see if it works.

Well Lena just came running in here with half a roll of toilet paper. Seems she was having fun while I was blogging. So I'm off to clean up that mess.

Rough Waters

Things have been a little rough around here the past couple days. I've really been missing my mom and have been a little down. It seems to go in spurts. I miss her all the time but sometimes I'm just way more emotional about it. I've noticed that if things are going along fairly well with the rest of my life my grief remains manageable. But if anything else gets out of whack then it makes missing her even worse and I have a hard time getting by.

I think the new job, the start of the new semester, and frustration on the adoption front have worn me down. So I'm tired and frustrated and just want my mom to fix it. But she can't. So I'm just trying to push on...

Today I went out to her place at the cemetary for a long time. It makes me feel better to be there. I had a ton of homework to do so I hauled a blanket, packed my lunch and my book bag and headed out to her place. It was actually the most relaxed I've been all week. Her place is way out in the country and it's beautiful and quiet there. So I laid on my blanket and worked on homework for a few hours. I left there feeling much better.

But now tonight I'm missing her again. I put on an old video of her telling jokes thinking that would make me feel better. I thought if I heard her voice it would help me calm down but not so much. Grief is hard work! I'm starting to get tired of it...

Yesterday was a very long day at work and then I had a ton of homework to get done in the evening. I stayed up way to late working on it. So by the time I went to bed I seriously think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow. While I was worn out I guess my dog Lena Lou was not.

I woke up this morning and about fell out of the bed. Lena is quite the bed hog. For being a small dog she takes up a lot of space! Instead of curling up and sleeping in a ball like most dogs she streches out as long as she can across the bed. But her head has to be touching me. So if I scoot over she scoots over and before you know it I'm about out on the floor.

So after she about pushed me out of bed and I tried to get resituated I started noticing some things weren't quite right. The bed was quite lumpy. It seems after I went to sleep Lena had a little party in bed. There were a total of 14 toys in my bed. She brought everything to bed. I'm sure she thought I would eventually play with her if she kept bringing them but I slept through it all! How does that happen??? You would think the noise or the movement would wake me up but no....

Now I wonder what else she does when I'm sleeping??????

Okay the new season of The Biggest Loser kicks off next Tuesday. So with the start of the show I'm renewing my committment to healthy eating and exercise. And in the spirit of the Biggest Loser I think we need a little healthy competition! So if you would like to join my Blogging Biggest Loser competition I would love to have you!

Here are the rules!

1. Leave me a comment letting me know you want to join.
2. Post on your blog about the competition and encourage others to join the fun.
3. Leave me a comment one time per week throughout the competition letting me know what you gain or lose during the week.
4. Have fun and lets' get healthy!!!

I will list each contestent in the sidebar of my blog. I will also list how much each person has lost or gained. This will be updated on Tuesday nights after the newest episode of The Biggest Loser airs. Then after the shows big finale we can see who the Blogging Biggest Loser is. I think as a group we can encourage each other and lose a lot of weight!!!

Reading Is Fun

I love to read. I probably read about 100 books a year not counting the required reading I have to do for my classes. So I spend a lot of money on books. I should use the library more but I don't... Raven is having a little contest over at her blog. If you enter the contest you have a chance to win some cool books! So I'm entering the contest. Books make me happy but free books make me ecstatic!!!!

Music

I downloaded a bunch of new music so I'm busy burning cd's. I'm sick and tired of listening to the same old thing on the radio. I used to have XM radio and I loved it. But I didn't love paying for it. So I decided to let it go and just depend on burned cd's and radio.

I also took a bunch of cool pictures this weekend so I need to get those on the computer and edited so I can share them. There is a really awesome on of Heather that I love. She is easy to take pictures of though. It's not hard to get a good photo when you have such a cute girl to take pics of.

My Mom

Tomorrow will mark the one year anniversary of my mom's death. It's hard for me to believe that it's been a year. I had never spent more than two weeks away from her before so the idea that it's been a year now and I've survived is shocking to me. I miss her so very much. I thought that time would make it hurt less or that eventually I'd stop missing her but I've found that neither of those things are true.

I've also learned in the past year how much I'm like my mom. She was one of the toughest ladies I know. No matter what happened to her she would pick herself up and laugh it off. She just pushed forward and nothing stopped her. I don't handle things as well as she did but I've learned a lot from her about how to move forward and still be happy.

So here is a little slideshow I made of my mom. I've never done this before but I had a lot of fun putting it together so I hope it works!

I love you mom and I still miss you!
